Red Cross Assisting Jersey City Families Displaced by Home Fire

The American Red Cross is currently helping five families who were displaced from their homes following an early morning fire today that burned through their Grant Avenue homes in Jersey City.

updated fire photo_webSix members of the Red Cross Disaster Action Team (DAT) responded to the scene and throughout the day to provide help to the families affected by the fire.

After meeting with the families to determine their immediate needs, five families (15 people) received Red Cross emergency assistance for temporary lodging, food and clothing.

In addition, the Red Cross, in cooperation with Jersey City officials, had a reception center open for the dozens of residents who were temporarily evacuated from surrounding buildings for safety reasons. Power to most of these buildings has been restored and these residents have been able to return home.
