The American Red Cross is currently helping five families who were displaced from their homes following an early morning fire today that burned through their Grant Avenue homes in Jersey City.
After meeting with the families to determine their immediate needs, five families (15 people) received Red Cross emergency assistance for temporary lodging, food and clothing.
In addition, the Red Cross, in cooperation with Jersey City officials, had a reception center open for the dozens of residents who were temporarily evacuated from surrounding buildings for safety reasons. Power to most of these buildings has been restored and these residents have been able to return home.
